Thomas Witlam Atkinson was a 19th-century English traveler best-known for his voyage in Siberia. This voyage, which lasted for more than six years, took Atkinson and team through Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Tartary, Mongolia, and the Djungar Alatau mountains. His book Oriental and Western Siberia became one of the most-read books on Russia in the mid-19th-century much in part to the illustrations of Kazakh sultans and dress.
